The “1st Reconstructive Surgery Program for Women Victims of Domestic Violence” was created by TheBridge for SBCP (Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery) and aimed to streamline the care of the public network of women who need restorative free plastic surgery to treat injuries caused by household aggression. The project also had the support of the State Department of Public Safety.
From a telephone answering service, women forwarded their complaints to a free number and were selected for the medical care and subsequent surgery. The pilot project started in São Paulo, with the participation of 11 public hospitals and 100 medical volunteers. This project has received 1685 calls and 129 women have been attended. 15 surgeries have already been carried out.
