READING IN INCLUSIVE AND ACCESSIBLE SPACE – READ

The purpose of the project was to give access to visually and intellectually impaired, dyslexic and illiterate members of the community to books that have not yet been translated to Braille. The goal was to enable them to access this knowledge in two languages, Portuguese and Spanish, turning written language into audio. The project, in partnership with SMPED (Municipal Secretariat of Persons with Disabilities and Reduced Mobility) consisted of providing a scanner specially developed for digitizing books with a voice synthesizer and a computer with the available multimedia and headphones, for 31 public libraries of the State of São Paulo. This project allowed access by the target audience to almost 100% of the printed collection in municipal libraries.
